5 Ways to Store Outdoor Decor, Tools, and Accessories without a Garden Shed

They don’t call them “the great outdoors” for nothing. Whether gardening, swimming, entertaining, or simply lounging in a hammock, there’s plenty of great activities to do outside during the warmer seasons. However, when temperatures drop, most people find themselves venturing indoors to wait out the cool weather. But what do you do with the outdoor decor items, gardening tools, and outdoor furniture during the winter? Most people would tuck these items into a garden shed until spring, but what if you don’t have the money, space or energy to build a garden shed on your property? Don’t worry! There are plenty of other ways to keep your warm weather items neatly organized and protected until the warm weather returns.

#1 Garage Storage Options

For years, garages have stored more than just cars. These structures have housed all manner of equipment, furniture, and random junk for years. However, you don’t want to just toss all your outdoor supplies into the building willy-nilly (you do need room for your car after all). Instead, use multiple organization options to keep everything neat and tidy. Garage cabinets and shelves provide a convenient place for small items like tools, hardware, and small garden planters. A pegboard also provides space-saving organization for larger items like brooms, shovels, and rakes. Hanging hooks also allow you to suspend large items from the ceiling like bikes, ladders, and fishing rods.

#2 Outdoor Deck Boxes

Deck boxes are a useful option for year-round storage. Available in a number of sizes and colors, these versatile storage boxes can be used to store everything from pool toys, garden supplies like soil or watering cans, and patio cushions. Some models also feature locks for additional protection. Plus, some deck boxes are built into benches so you can enjoy comfortable seating and convenient storage in one piece.

#3 Log Racks

During the cold months, firewood is a necessity, but you don’t necessarily want it cluttering up your patio or yard. Plus, if it is not stored properly firewood can be rendered useless by damp weather. Log racks provide a convenient way to keep the logs neat, organized, and most importantly off the ground. Add a protective log cover to keep them safe and dry during the long winter.

#4 Create a Mobile Garden Station

Creating a mobile gardening station can solve two problems at once. It keeps your gardening tools, gloves, and soil in one place while also allowing you to easily move all of your gardening equipment to your garden beds, bushes, and trees. Not only does it save you some effort carrying all your supplies, but it makes it easy to move inside your garage or mudroom when the season is over. Use a garden cart or wagon and fill it with your supplies to create a mobile garden station.

#5 Choose a Mini Garden Shed

Not all garden sheds require a foundation and construction. Sometimes a slim option or small option is just what you need to free up space in your yard or garage. Adding a small wooden or plastic shed can add valuable storage to any outdoor space.

If a new outbuilding isn’t in the cards for you right now, don’t fret. There are still plenty of practical ways to keep your outdoor belongings neatly organized and protected until spring comes again.
