Stockings add charm to any room, and finding the right place for them can make holiday decorating feel fresh each year. I used Lila and Otto’s handmade stockings in most of these photos, which made the whole project even sweeter. Here are seven simple ideas that help your stockings shine while fitting right into your home.
Option #1: On a Homemade Fence Panel with Hooks

For a cozy, rustic look, try a small fence panel with hooks. I set a white panel beside our Christmas tree and hung Lila and Otto’s stockings straight across. It creates an easy backdrop and works well if you want the stockings to stand out without taking up a full wall.
Option #2: On a Wall

A decorated wall turns into the perfect stocking backdrop. In this setup, I covered a small section of the wall with Nordic Christmas wrapping paper and placed a mirror in the center with a wreath. One stocking went on each side on small hooks. It looks polished, and all you need is a roll of paper, tape, hooks, and a bit of free time.
Option #3: On a Decorative or Vintage Ladder

A ladder is a classic go to. Lean one against the wall and hang stockings down the rungs. It works in tight spaces and pairs well with holiday accents like garland or ornaments.
Option #4: From a Cabinet Door

Cabinet doors in a dining area or kitchen make great temporary holiday hangers. I attached Lila and Otto’s stockings to one of ours and loved how it added color to a spot that usually stays plain. Just use removable hooks to protect your doors.
Option #5: From a Bookshelf or Console Table

If you have a bookshelf or console table near your tree, stocking hangers work perfectly. I placed our hangers on the top shelf, decorated the shelves, and let the stockings drop neatly in front. This option feels styled but still relaxed.
Option #6: On a Hall Tree

A hall tree is an ideal landing spot for stockings. The hooks are already there, and the height gives stockings room to drape. This is also a great solution if you want the stockings in an entryway rather than the living room.
Option #7: From the Backs of Chairs

Dining chairs offer an easy and playful way to hang stockings. I attached Lila and Otto’s to the backs of our chairs. You can use small, clear command hooks, but clear packing tape worked surprisingly well for me. It adds instant color to your dining space and looks great for holiday meals. Just be careful if your chairs have a special finish that you don't use anything that might strip or damage that finish.
